“ This is a 5/5 sushi joint. Take this sushi spot for what it is. It's not a fancy $300 omakase sit down restaurant. It's your local mom and pop casual dining that so happens to be a hidden local gem. Compared to other sushi restaurants in this category, I would 100% recommend this place. Main highlights: -Sashimi and fish are very fresh. Honestly, some of the cuts are comparable to some fish I've had at fancy omakase restaurants. -I recently tried their omakase set. I paid $70/person for 12 course. Some of the courses had multiple pieces. In total, I think I ate 20 different things, which included: salad, miso, sashimi, nigiri, shrimp, oyster, uni and ice cream. I was extremely full and satisfied after the meal. The omakase experience is best described as a casual dining experience where you get whatever the chef wants to prepare for you. Similar to ordering a prefix menu, except each course that comes out is a surprise. The presentation is similar to what you'd get if you ordered from the regular menu. A few of the food items are from the regular menu. There were also some nigiri pieces I had not tried before. My favorite pieces were the oyster, red snapper, salmon carpaccio with truffle oil, blue crab hand roll, and toro. You need to call at least one day in advance to reserve omakase. -Lastly service is always warm. The place is small so if you come in you'll mostly interact with the owners themselves. The chef is also super funny to talk to. FYI: -Make reservations ahead of time, especially on the weekends. The place is small so seating is limited especially on the weekends. You may wait a while if you don't reserve. During the weekdays, I've walked in and have had no trouble being seated right away. For omakase, I recommend coming during the weekday. It's less busy so you can enjoy your meal. -The sushi spot is located in a lonesome plaza. It's next to the Wingstop. Parking is plenty, but don't be deterred by the outside. I promise the sushi inside is better compared to many sushi places in the area. Last note on sushi rolls: -Like I said, this place is better compared to many sushi joints of this category. I've had a few of the rolls and was not disappointed. Rating would be more on your preference. If you want just cuts and rice, try the chirashi bowl. It's plenty and you'll get to try the sashimi as is. ”
“ Hamachi Sushi Express is a hidden gem in La Habra that needs to be talked about more! Their food quality and prompt customer service cannot be beat. First, the restaurant is tucked amongst other eateries and is easily visible from La Habra Blvd. Parking is not difficult and easy to find given the mid-sized lot. The inside of the restaurant is charming and intimate. Plan accordingly because seats and tables will fill up at peak lunch and dinner times. Luckily we were seated right away the couple times we've come in. The staff here are super friendly and are prompt with their service. They offered us their recommendations and were easy to flag down if we needed anything. The quality of the sushi was fresh and the portion sizes were substantial. The way that the dishes were presented were thoughtfully put together. Overall a great dining experience and look forward to future visits! ”
“ We got a few different rolls and all were good! They have some more unique flavors and it mixed well with the fish. All the fish was also very fresh. The rolls are smaller than expected but it was still good. Would come back to try their other rolls We came on a Saturday night and got seated right away. ”
“ There was no wait here on a Tuesday evening. Everything we had was great and service was friendly and quick. We had the spam musubi and miso soup to start. For our meal we had the special combo which was $40 for any three rolls. We got a rainbow roll, baked lobster roll and Alba crunch roll. It was all fresh and tasty and the rolls had a nice fresh brightness. The restaurant is very quiet and relaxing. ”
“ e been here so many times and brought so many friends with me to dine. This is hands down the BEST sushi place I have eaten at. It's a small cozy shop with very few tables so make sure to reserve your spot since they've been popular recently! I've been here multiple times to eat different rolls, hand rolls, miso soup, etc., and I've also come here twice already for their omakase. Omakase is so so sooo good and definitely worth a try. I treated my partner for his bday in July, and he treated me today for an early Valentine's day. The chef is very knowledgeable and funny, the chefs and workers are so friendly. I definitely recommend coming here, and I've moved away from the area, but I still make the trip to come up here. Hopefully I'll be back soon and I cannot wait!!! Also I posted some pics of the food from omakase - Two different times with slightly different availability! ”
“ Shocked how great this place was! All the fish was super fresh and cold. Clean and inviting. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. Will definitely be coming back. On a side note: No beer or sake. ”
“ This place is so good. Call ahead on a Saturday or expect to wait. Excellent bluefin tuna sashimi. The chef was generous to add the toro slices-so kind. Baked scallop roll was amazing. Love the chill music background. Fun decor. Will be back for sure! ”
“ GO HERE!!!! DO IT!!!! This could be the best sushi we've ever had!!! Don't let the area fool you!! Service was amazing and the chef would call out from his counter if it was a unique cut. The people here truly care about your experience. The fish was so fresh and would melt in your mouth. The rice was soft and didn't feel cold like it's been out like other restaurants . The spicy tuna here was amazing. A generous amount but not overwhelming. Our favorite was the firecracker roll. The scallops are soooo tasty in this one. None of the sushi's we had tasty "fishy" or ocean-y. Vibes were cute and local. Not spacious but makes for an intimate experience. Highly recommend!!! ”
“ My daughter came back for the holidays and I took her to Hamachi Sushi for lunch. This was her first visit. She absolutely loves the foods here. We ordered cucumber salad, baked lobster tail and spicy rainbow roll, they were so delicious! The service were great too! We strongly recommend to come try if you like Japanese foods. We will definitely come back again! ”
“ This is now one of my favorite sushi spots ever! I'm definitely going to be a life long customer. I came here last night with my boyfriend, and we both think it's a HIDDEN GEM! The sushi / sashimi was soooo good. It tasted really fresh too. The rolls were also perfect, everything complimented each other really well. What we got: - Premium Chirashi Bowl (5/5): a variety of cuts and was the perfect amount of sashimi for 2 people. they're also big pieces! - Alba Crunch Roll (5/5) my favorite roll! I think there's cilantro in it, but I've never had a roll like this. we ordered it last and it tasted really refreshing!!! - La Habra Roll (5/5): delicious and flavorful!!! The inside was small, and very cozy! I loved the Christmas vibes they put on this season. The workers are so kind and sweet, they asked us what our favorite fish was and made sure we were comfortable. Overall, one of my favorite sushi spots ever. *I wish I took pictures of the food, but my bf and I was just so focused on eating. I'll definitely take some next time I come back! ”
